Have you ever observed, few people will be
having photographic memory (like our Dr. Sheldon Cooper) remembering every
minute details of the distant past and recollecting them very easily. Other
people are bit absent minded, forgetting quickly. If asked, what did you had
breakfast yesterday? They will try to think hard and remember.
For me, initially from school days, I use to
fall in the first category. I use to by-heart and remember answers for exams in
such a way that when my mother use to prepare me for exams, she might not
needed to ask questions only. I would have photographed the notebook pages
together in my memory. I use to tell myself the question as well the answer too
;-) She just needs to read through my book examining whether I’m right. It was
quite amazing, how much I use to mug and remember.
But then from the beginning of college days, I
wasn't that much effective when it came to memorizing. My memorizing power went
on decreasing exponentially since then. It has so many times happened to me that,
I would have met a person or known a person somehow in a short meet and just
after some couple of weeks often I use to fail to identify the very same person
who use to come and talk to me closely! I use to keep on wondering, who is this
person, in the background, while pretending like talking with them, as if I
remember to whom I am talking to! Later when the person leaves the place, I
immediately used to ask somebody next to me, who was that person, to whom I was
talking till now!!! LoL. Such an absent minded.
One incident which i particularly remember and
astonishes me to this day is, I had been to nuggekeri (it is a famous temple in
dharwad, near our engineering college). On Saturday’s it will be crowded like
diagen alley! Since heavy crowd so obviously too many slippers outside the
temple. When I visited and came out of the temple in a deep discussion with my
friend and started to search for my slippers, I couldn't find them at all. It
was already dark and almost pre-night. We both searched for almost 15-20mins
for my slippers until finally my friend pointed out that, I had already put
them! Heights of absent mindedness. In that discussion, I have put my slippers
and then started searching for them in hundreds of slippers. Hilarious till
today!
Since then, I have a very much high respect and
consider them as lucky, who have an identic memory. Some people are gifted like
to remember most of the things of past and re-collect them easily. I envy them.
I have a school friend, who has such a photographic memory that, he remembers
almost all the events happened in the past with at most details. In our school
group gang, whenever we end up in an argument like, what had happened in the
past and who said what, when, why etc. For unsettlement cases, we ask this friend
and his words are the FINAL. No more argument :-)
I really miss that kind of memory. I also wish
that it would be great if I too had the same kind of memory, instead of this
absent minded and easily forgettable. But then I also convince myself that may
be it is good to be forgetful because sometimes as none of us would wish to
carry long the memories of failures, losses, disappointments and enmity in
lives. It is good to forget and move on. Don't you agree with me?
